I grew up learning English and Japanese at the same time as a child.
I was never officially taught the Japanese language in school. I learned through experience, TV shows, reading kids books, talking to my family to brush up on my Japanese. But what really did it was being literally thrown in the fire to fend for myself every summer attending a local Japanese elementary school. I never had a break in school, but that’s because it was fun learning through real-life experiences everyday!
I strongly believe reading and talking ALOUD is the best way to learn a language.
There was a period during college where I didn’t any speak Japanese at all, I felt I lost my speaking confidence and abilities. That’s why I chose to create children’s story books because we all need to start from zero. Don’t worry, I’ll try not to make it too boring!

私は幼い頃、英語と日本語を同時に学びながら育ちました。学校で日本語を正式に教わることはなく、経験を通じて身につけていきました。テレビ番組を見たり、子供向けの読書をしたり、家族と話して日本語に磨きをかけました。しかし、本当に日本語力が伸びたのは、毎夏、地元の日本の小学校に文字通り放り込まれ、自分で何とかしなければならなかった時でした。学校に休みはありませんでしたが、実生活での経験を通して毎日学ぶことが楽しかったので、全く苦になりませんでした！
私は、声に出して読み、話すことが言語を習得する上で最善の方法だと強く信じています。
大学生の頃、日本語を全く話さない時期があり、話すことへの自信と能力を失ってしまったと感じました。だからこそ、私たちは皆ゼロから始める必要があると考え、子供向けの絵本を作ることにしました。ご心配なく、あまり退屈にならないように頑張ります！
自分の声を筋肉のように使いましょう。語彙は図書館から本を引き出すように。文法は銀行口座にお金を預けるように蓄積していきましょう。さあ、学ぶ準備はできましたか？
